Gregorey Macon, Jahyra Demings, and Todd Margerum facing drug and weapons charges stemming from a traffic stop
At 10:00 AM on July 8, 2021, a handgun was reported as stolen to APD. The gun was inside the center console of an unlocked pickup truck parked outside a residence on the 2700-block of Aspen Drive when it was taken.
At 1:00 AM on June 4, 2022, a mid-shift patrol officer saw 2002 green Ford Explorer being driven westbound on 15th Avenue without its headlights on. A computer check of the license plate showed the plate was registered to a 2012 black Chevy Traverse. The officer initiated a traffic stop by activating his patrol vehicle’s emergency lights. The Ford’s driver pulled over into a business parking lot on the 900-block of E 15th Avenue.
The officer contacted the driver and asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle; the driver stated there were not. The driver then provided the officer with a name that was not his own. Ultimately police were able to identify him as 31-year-old Gregorey O. W. Macon. The left rear passenger was identified as 25-year-old Jahyra A. Demings. Once she was removed from the vehicle, a gun was seen lying on the floorboard where her feet had been. A computer check revealed that weapon had been reported as stolen to APD eleven months prior. Finally, the right front passenger was identified as 51-year-old Todd A. Margerum who had a handgun with a scratched-off serial number right next to him.
All three were transported to the Anchorage Police Department to be interviewed by detectives. During that process, investigators determined Gregorey Macon had handled the stolen firearm. It was also discovered that all three suspects had outstanding warrants. During a search of the vehicle, meth belonging to Todd Margerum and Jahyra Demings was recovered.
Gregory Macon was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his three outstanding warrants (one felony and two misdemeanors). He was additionally charged with Theft II – Firearms, Misconduct Involving a Weapon III – Felon in Possession, Violate Conditions of Release, and False Information.
Jahyra Demings was remanded at Hiland Correctional on her outstanding felony warrant. She was also charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V.
