Homicide; 3500-block W 88th Avenue

Update on 8/27/20:
At 2:29 AM on August 25, 2018, Anchorage Police responded to an apartment complex on the 3500-block of W 88th Avenue in regards to reports of a gun being fired inside one of the apartments followed by the rapid exodus of everyone inside. Upon arrival officers located 37-year-old Kevin A. Napier, who was deceased inside an apartment, with a gunshot wound to the upper body. The suspect(s) subsequently stole the victim’s 2006 blue Dodge Dakota pickup; three days later it was found abandoned and burning off Hiland Road in Eagle River.

Detectives believe there were witnesses to the shooting who have not yet made a statement to police. They are asking those with information regarding this crime, or anyone else with knowledge of what happened that morning, to come forward with what they know by calling Homicide Detective Sergeant Cross at 907-786-2438.

The victim has been identified as Kevin Napier (37 years old).
Next of kin procedures have been completed.

Homicide detectives believe the victim was shot in the upper body and died as a result. They are still looking for additional people to speak with who have information about this investigation.

On 8/25/18 around 2:30 a.m., Dispatch received a report of a disturbance in the 3500 block of West 88th Avenue.

Officers with the Patrol Division searched the area and zeroed in on an apartment building. They found adult male deceased inside an apartment and detained several people for questioning. Officers have determined the death to be a homicide. The exact cause of death has not been determined and is part of the investigation.

Homicide detectives are looking to talk with anyone with information about this investigation.

No arrests have been made at this time.
