Homicide; 700-block of W 4th Avenue
Update:
Anchorage Police have charged two men in connection with a murder that took place in the alley behind the Gaslight Bar, located at the 700 block of W. 4th Avenue at 3:10 AM this morning.
David Dennis, age 36, and Roy Schauer, age 46, have both been charged with Murder 1 and Murder 2 for the shooting death of James Moren, age 41.
According to witnesses and surveillance footage, Moren and Schauer had been inside the Gaslight Bar that evening; the two men were acquaintances. As patrons were leaving the bar at about 3 AM, Moren headed out into the alley/parking lot behind the bar and Schauer followed him. Schauer shot Moren several times before attempting to flee. Surveillance video footage revealed that David Dennis drove to the area behind the Gaslight Bar and provided a gun to Schauer just prior to the shooting. When Schauer attempted to leave the area, APD officers on foot patrol, who had heard the shots fired, stopped him and recovered a gun from inside his pickup believed to be used in the murder.
Both Dennis and Schauer were booked into the Anchorage Jail where they are being held without bail.
This incident marks the 33rd homicide in Anchorage in 2016.
