Homicide Investigation: 700-block of W 4th Avenue

Update on 7/17/24:

Initial indications are that 30-year-old Patricia Avery assaulted another adult female.  That physical altercation culminated into 30-year-old Tahjeay Baldwin and another adult male firing their guns at one another.  The shooting left Baldwin deceased and the other male with life-threatening injuries. 

Immediately after the shooting, Patricia Avery and 38-year-old Markin L. Giddins picked up one of the involved weapons and removed it from the scene.  That weapon was located and retrieved by police.  Patricia Avery was remanded at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center on the charges of Tampering with Physical Evidence and Assault IV.  Markin Giddins was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex for Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Whether the involved parties were all previously known to one another is still under investigation.  The injured male has not been charged.  The investigation is ongoing.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Tahjeay Baldwin.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 2:39 AM on July 14, 2024, APD mid-shift officers were dispatched to 700-block of W 4th Avenue in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two adult males with gunshot wounds. Both males were transported to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries.  One victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital; the identity of the deceased victim will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed. The other victim is receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries.

Officers have closed 4th Avenue between G Street and H Street while they conduct the investigation. The Crime Scene Team has responded to process the scene. Please avoid the area and follow officers’ instructions if you need to be in the vicinity.

Police believe there are no outstanding suspects.
