IBRAHAM ABDELKARIM ARRESTED BY K9 SIG FOR ASSAULT
On April 23, 2025, at 11:24 PM, Anchorage Police Department's swing shift patrol officers, mid shift patrol officers, and K9 Unit were dispatched to the 1500 block of E. 43rd Ct. regarding a disturbance involving a firearm. Dispatch informed the officers that a male suspect, armed with a handgun and believed to be intoxicated, was threatening neighbors. The suspect had retreated inside his residence prior to officers arriving.
Upon arrival, the officers attempted to contact the suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Ibraham Abdelkarim. Despite numerous attempts by officers and negotiators to communicate with Abdelkarim, they were unsuccessful. Officers issued multiple less-lethal warnings and used canine announcements for him to comply. Eventually, Abdelkarim exited his residence but refused to cooperate as he stood on the porch. After more warnings, which also went ignored, K9 Sig was deployed. K9 Sig made contact with Abdelkarim's arm, allowing the officers to handcuff him. Abdelkarim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of the dog bite. He was subsequently remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on two counts of Assault 3, Resisting Arrest, Misconduct Involving a Weapon 3, Misconduct Involving a Weapon 4, and Violating Conditions of Release.
No officers or K9 Sig were injured during the incident.
