Isaac Maeva and Sophia Belton arrested during traffic stop; drugs and a weapon were seized.

At 5:48 PM on July 19, 2022, an officer assigned to APD’s Traffic Unit conducted a traffic stop on a red Dodge Charger at E 11th Avenue and Hyder Street.  The vehicle had no license plates, and all four side windows were illegally tinted.  A computer check revealed that the driver, 23-year-old Isaac J. Maeva, had a misdemeanor Fail to Appear warrant on the original charge of Criminal Mischief.  He also had Conditions of Release related to an open domestic violence related case.  Upon learning of the warrant, the officer instructed Maeva to exit the vehicle at which time Maeva stated there was a firearm in the driver side door pocket.  After Maeva stepped out and was handcuffed, officers saw drugs lying in plain view on the seat where Maeva had been sitting.

Subsequent to securing a search warrant, the vehicle was searched.  The loaded weapon, drugs, and other items were seized as evidence.   The passenger’s purse was also searched pursuant to the warrant; drugs were located inside the purse.

Isaac Maeva was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrant.  He was additionally charged with Misconduct Involving a Weapon II – Reference a Drug Crime, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance III, and Violate Conditions of Release.  He was cited for Vehicle to be Licensed, No Valid Driver’s License, and Transparent Materials (illegal window tint).

The passenger, 24-year-old Sophia I. A. Belton, was remanded at Hiland Correctional on the charge of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV.
