It’s the best time of the year!  Celebrate responsibly.

It doesn’t seem to matter if you’re a kid or an adult. It feels like we wait FOREVER for the magic of Christmas to arrive.  But alas, it is here!  Cookies and Santa and presents and family dinners and singing carols and listening REALLY REALLY HARD for the sound of reindeer hooves on the rooftop.  So much excitement to be had!  Please spend Christmas and New Years with your loved ones and family (or curled up with the dog on the sofa in front of the TV because you’ve had too much peopling). DO NOT spend it with us in the back of a police car because you had too much to drink and then you made the poor decision to get behind the wheel of an automobile.

Our IDEU officers (Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit) and patrol officers are always out on our roadways looking for impaired drivers.  In addition to those folks, we have several more officers working OUI traffic details* over both the Christmas and New Year’s holiday weekends.  Remember, buzzed driving is drunk driving.  If you have consumed alcohol, marijuana, or any other substance that altered your mental state, do not drive.  No matter how short the distance may be that you need to travel.  Phone a friend, call a cab, order up an Uber or Lyft.  You have so many options to keep you from hurting yourself, or worse, someone else.

Remember our REDDI Program – Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately by calling 9-1-1.  If you see someone on the roads not driving safely, give Dispatch a call right away so an officer can respond.  We need your help in keeping all of us safe.

No matter how you choose to celebrate this glorious time of year, we wish you and yours all the best.  May 2022 be your greatest year yet!

*These OUI Traffic Details are funded by a grant from the Alaska Highway Safety Office.
