James Smith taken into custody by K9 OB during a warrant service

At 12:34 AM on June 25, 2022, Anchorage Police acted on information they had received regarding 34-year-old James D. D. Smith who had an outstanding felony warrant for a probation violation.  Officers set up a perimeter around a residence on the 200-block of Meyer Street before contacting an adult male at the home’s front door.  While that conversation was taking place, Smith jumped out of a back second-story window.

Perimeter officers gave Smith multiple K9 warnings, and they told Smith not to move.  Smith took off running; he hopped over a fence and continued northbound.  K9 OB was deployed.  OB contacted one of Smith’s arms at which time officers took Smith into custody.

Smith was transported to the hospital for treatment of the dog bite.  Afterwards he was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrant.  Smith was additionally charged with Resisting.

Neither K9 OB nor any of the officers were injured.
