Jesse Flores facing several charges after bringing a gun and drugs onto school grounds

At 3:11 PM on December 3, 2021, Anchorage Police responded to Northern Lights ABC Elementary School located at 2424 E Dowling Road reference an adult male slumped over the wheel of a vehicle parked in the student pickup line.  The caller stated that before the suspect vehicle entered the school parking lot, the suspect had driven his Nissan SUV into the ditch; the caller had pulled the Nissan out.

A patrol officer assigned to the School Resource Unit (SRO) responded and located the Nissan which had been blocked in by the citizen caller. The SRO activated his patrol vehicle’s emergency lights before exiting the car and contacting several people to include the suspect, the citizen caller, and school employees.  After speaking with the suspect, 31-year-old Jesse J. Flores, the SRO spoke with witnesses to ascertain what had happened. Afterwards the SRO recontacted Flores and asked him for ID.  The SRO then asked Flores if he was armed at which time Flores stated he had a firearm on his person (Flores had not mentioned the weapon at any time during any of his previous contact with the officer as he is required to do so by law).  The SRO detained Flores and then removed a handgun from Flores’ waistband.  The officer also located a vape pen on Flores’ person which contained a substance that is a marijuana derivative.

During his entire contact with Flores, the SRO noticed signs of impairment. After Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were conducted, the decision was made to charge Flores with Driving under the Influence.  Flores was transported to the Anchorage Jail for further processing; he provided a breath sample that showed his breath alcohol content was more than two times the legal limit.

Flores was remanded on the charges of DUI, Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Adult Possess at a School, Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Possess While Intoxicated, Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Fail to Inform, Misconduct Involving a Weapon II – Reference a Drug Crime, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance – Possession near a School.
