Joseph Perkins Indicted for Attempted Murder

From the Attorney General’s Office:

March 22, 2022 (Anchorage, AK) – Yesterday, an Anchorage grand jury indicted 22-year-old Joseph Perkins on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and four counts of first-degree assault.  The charges stem from a January 3, 2022, incident in which the defendant is alleged to have shot two individuals in their vehicle near the intersection of Tudor Road and the Old Seward Highway.

If convicted at trial, Perkins faces a sentence of up to 99 years imprisonment for the attempted murder charges.

These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Perkins is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to be arraigned before the Superior Court in Anchorage on March 23, 2022.

Update on 1/4/22:
22-year-old Joseph M. Perkins was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest, and two counts of Assault I.

Update on 1/3/22 at 2:50 PM:
Initial indications are that there was a group of people inside a Jeep stopped for the red light at the intersection of Old Seward Highway and Tudor Road.  Some type of altercation took place inside the vehicle during which an adult male fired a handgun.  An adult male and adult female inside the Jeep were both hit.  A young juvenile in the vehicle was not injured.
 
The adult suspect fled on foot.  When he reached the 900-block of E 45th Court, the suspect punched an adult male pedestrian in the face.  The motivation behind the assault is unknown.  It has not yet been determined whether the suspect and the assault victim know one another.
 
The suspect continued to run.  Police took him into custody near E 46th Court and Ingra Street.  The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
 
The two shooting victims were transported to the hospital.  As of now, their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
 
The entire intersection of Old Seward and Tudor is no longer shut down.  One northbound lane at the intersection is closed.

At 1:58 PM on January 3, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to the intersection of Old Seward Highway and E Tudor Road regarding a shooting wherein there were injuries.  A suspect has been taken into custody.  The severity of the injuries is currently unknown.
 
The intersection of Old Seward and Tudor is completely shut down; please avoid the area.
