K9 Midas apprehended Thomas Reyes during a warrant service

On 1/27/2022 at 2:39PM Officers with the APD Warrants Unit responded to the 4400 Block of East 147th Avenue to attempt a warrant service on 43-year-old Thomas Reyes. Reyes had two felony warrants for his arrest, one for assault 3rd and the other for felony DUI. The warrants officers located Reyes in his residence and, as they were contacting him, he turned and fled further into the house. Additional officers responded from Patrol, Investigative Support Unit, Crisis Negotiations and K9 to assist in the search for Reyes.  A perimeter was set up and announcements were made to try and get Reyes to submit to arrest. Reyes continued to refuse to communicate with the officers.  A search warrant was obtained and more announcements, including K9 warnings, were given. Reyes remained unresponsive.  K9 Midas was deployed to search for Reyes and K9 Midas located Reyes hiding between mattresses in a bedroom.  Reyes was apprehended by K9 Midas and he began to comply with officer’s commands. Reyes was taken into custody without further incident.

Reyes was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries to his leg.  Once medically cleared, Reyes was remanded to the Anchorage Jail for his two felony warrants and resisting arrest.

 K9 Midas was not injured.
