Officer involved shooting investigation; 2000-block Salmonberry Place

Update:
The officer has been identified as Officer Daniel Otte.
He’s been a member of APD for 3 years.

Update 12/22/17:
Next of kin notification has been made.
The suspect has been identified as Charles McBride (56-years-old).

Update 12/21/17:
The preliminary investigation found that around 9:50 p.m., the suspect broke a front window of a neighbor’s residence. At about 11:20 p.m., as the neighbor and a maintenance employee were assessing the damage to the window, the suspect emerged from his garage and fired several shots at them. They ran back into the residence and called 911. As officers were responding to the scene, residents reported hearing additional gun shots. When officers arrived, they quickly set up a perimeter and began securing the scene. Additional officers arrived to assist in the search for the suspect. Around 11:54 p.m., the suspect emerged again from his garage and again fired his weapon. An officer returned fire and struck the suspect in the upper body. Officers rendered aid to the suspect until medics arrived. The suspect was declared dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

The identity of the suspect is not being released pending next of kin notification.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be given to the Office of Special Prosecution for review.

The officer has been placed on mandatory administrative leave and the name will be released in 72 hours.

On 12/20/17 at 11:21 p.m., Dispatch received a report of shots fired in the 2000 block of Salmonberry Place.

As officers responded to investigate, they were confronted by an armed male suspect. The suspect was shot by an officer. The suspect was declared dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time.

Crime scene investigators are on the scene.

The case will be given to the Office of Special Prosecution for review.

The officer involved has been placed on mandatory administrative leave.
