NARRATIVE: On April 16, 2025, at 5:04 PM APD officers were dispatched to the 2300-block of E 66th Ave. in reference to a disturbance with a firearm. Upon arrival officers located an adult male victim with trauma to the upper body. He was transported to a local hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.
E 66th Ave. between Stella Pl. and O’Brien St. will be closed while the Crime Scene Team processes the scene. Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area. If you do not need to be in the vicinity, please avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice.

UPDATED NARRATIVE: The adult male victim has died as a result of at least one gun shot wound to his upper body.
Several people were transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning. The investigation is still underway; no arrests have been made. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.
UPDATED NARRATIVE ON 4/17/25: Initial indications are that a fight broke out between two male adults outside on the 2600-block of E 66th Ave. when the suspect produced a gun and discharged multiple rounds striking the victim at least one time in the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died from his injuries. The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notifications procedures have been completed.
Several individuals were transported to APD for questioning by detectives. Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified one male suspect as 24-year-old Mykal Nelson. Nelson was charged with Murder 1 and Murder 2 and remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex.
UPDATED NARRATIVE ON 4/18/25: The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Christopher Johnson. Next-of-kin notification procedures are complete.
