Shooting Investigation at 16400-block of Home Place

UPDATE at 8:20 PM:

Witnesses reported to Anchorage Police that there were at least two adult male suspects firing handguns outside a residence at the 16400-block of Home Place. Later, it was reported that one of the suspects had fled the area on foot by crossing the Glenn Highway and was spotted near the 16200-block of Squaw Valley Circle, where he was ultimately contacted by police. During the exchange of gunfire, multiple residences were struck by bullets, and many shell casings were discovered in the neighboring areas and on the Glenn Highway.

Police charged 20-year-old Kieraun Jonathan with one count of Misuse of a Weapon 2, two counts of Misuse of a Weapon 5, and one count of Misuse of a Weapon 5. Police charged 37-year-old Christopher Bird with one count of Misuse of a Weapon 2, one count of Misuse of a Weapon 4 and Tampering with Evidence. Both suspects were remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex on their charges.

What led to the interaction and whether the two suspects were known to one another are still under investigation.

UPDATE at 5:50 AM:

At 3:18 AM on August 25, 2024, officers assigned to APD’s Mid Shift Patrol were dispatched to the 16400-block of Home Place in Eagle River for multiple reports of shots being fired in the area. When officers arrived, it appeared at least one suspect had crossed the Glenn Highway to the 16200-block of Squaw Valley Circle. Police located two suspects and both are in police custody. The motive for the shooting, and any relationship between the parties involved, is under investigation. No injuries have been reported. There will be a large police presence while officers continue to investigate details of this incident.

Both directions of the Glenn Highway at Eagle River are now open.

At 3:55 AM on August 25, 2024, Anchorage Police are investigating reports of shots fired near the 16400-block of Home Place in Eagle River. The proximity is close to the Glenn Highway; the Glenn Highway between North and South Eagle River Road exits will be closed while officers investigate. A drone is being utilized.
