Stephen Moses arrested for pointing a stolen weapon at passing motorists

On April 15, 2022, a citizen called Anchorage Police to report the theft of his handgun.  The owner thought his gun may have been taken from his home during an evening when he had several people over.  The unsecured gun had been lying on top of the refrigerator.

At 4:23 PM on April 20, 2022, APD officers saw a male walking near E 6th Avenue and Klevin Street.  The man had a handgun in his waistband which he kept pulling out, pointing at passing vehicles, and waving in the air.  An officer pulled up while activating his vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens.  The uniformed officer ordered 20-year-old Stephen I. Moses to not move.  Moses took off running southbound on Klevin.  Officers caught up to Moses in an alley on the 700-block of Klevin Street.  Moses stopped when he was unsuccessful in jumping a fence.  Initially Moses was not compliant, but after multiple commands by police, he eventually laid down onto his stomach. Once he was on the ground, Moses told police he had a gun on his person.

The loaded gun was retrieved from Moses; a computer check revealed it was the same weapon that had been reported as stolen five days prior.

Moses was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Misconduct Involving a Weapon III – Felon in Possession, two counts of Assault III, Resisting, and Theft II – Firearm.
