Tejuan Akbar apprehended by K9 Kiska during warrant service call
At 9:58 PM on July 12, 2022, swing shift patrol officers received information that 22-year-old Tejuan Akbar was seen walking near Northwood Street and Raspberry Road; he had outstanding warrants for his arrest. Officers located Akbar near the pedestrian tunnel that runs under Minnesota at the Raspberry Exit. When Akbar saw the officers walking towards him, he ran in the opposite direction. Officers identified themselves, ordered Akbar to stop, and gave a K9 warning. Akbar ignored the commands and continued to flee. K9 Kiska was deployed; he contacted Akbar on his backside when Akbar fell to the ground. Akbar was taken into custody without further incident. After being transported to a hospital for treatment of the bite, he was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrants.
Akbar was additionally charged with Assault II, two counts of Assault III, Assault IV, Burglary I, Criminal Mischief IV, and Violate Conditions of Release for a domestic violence related crime that he had committed the night before. Officers attempted to locate Akbar at the time but were unsuccessful.
