Thomas Tran arrested in shooting investigation
At 4:31 AM on July 24, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to the report of someone being shot. Officers arrived at an apartment complex on the 1000-block of W 26th Avenue; they located the adult male victim inside one of the apartments. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious wounds that he is expected to survive.
At 4:42 AM, while officers were tending to the victim, 30-year-old Thomas V. Tran called Police Dispatch and stated he had just been involved in a shooting. Officers contacted Tran in a different apartment located in the same complex. Tran was taken into custody and transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives; detectives could smell alcohol coming from Tran’s person during the interview. Afterwards Tran was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Reckless Endangerment, Assault I, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Possess While Intoxicated.
Initial indications are that Tran confronted the victim in the parking lot about a stolen bicycle. An argument ensued during which time Tran produced a weapon and shot the victim in the upper body. There is no indication the two knew one another prior to the shooting. The victim did not have a bicycle in his possession when he was confronted by Tran.
