TRAFFIC FATALITY: MILE 82, SEWARD HIGHWAY

A Jeep Gladiator traveling northbound collided with a southbound Mazda CX-50. Both passengers in the Jeep Gladiator were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One person from the Mazda CX-50 was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injurie

Two passengers from the Mazda CX-50 were pronounced dead at the scene: 67-year-old Sharon Finn and 55-year-old Anna Acovak.

The next-of-kin notification process has been completed.

ROAD CLOSURES: Inbound and Outbound lanes of the Seward Highway are closed, due to a traffic collision. There is no ETA of when the roads will re-open.

NARRATIVE: At approximately 4:11 PM on January 27, 2025, the Anchorage Police Department, Whittier Police Department, Anchorage Fire Department, and Girdwood Fir department responded to a vehicle collision with reported injuries near mile 82 of the Seward Highway.

Preliminary investigation indicates that two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision. Whittier Police Department has confirmed two fatalities at the scene. Three additional individuals sustained injuries; their current condition is unknown, and it is unclear whether the injuries are life-threatening at this time.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues. The Seward Highway may experience delays as first responders remain on-site to manage the situation. We encourage drivers to exercise caution and consider alternate routes.

The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
