Traffic Investigation; New Seward Hwy at Dimond Blvd for Single Vehicle Rollover

On August 20, 2023, the driver, identified as 34-year-old Derek Riley-Penner, passed away in the hospital from injuries he sustained in the crash.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 7:33 PM on August 16, 2023, officers assigned to swing shift patrol and medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the area of the New Seward Highway and Dimond Blvd in reference to a single vehicle rollover with injuries.

 Initial indications are that an adult male was driving a Dodge Ram northbound on the New Seward Highway and was exiting the Dimond offramp when the vehicle left the roadway on the right side and rolled over. The driver was ejected. There were no other occupants.

 AFD Medics arrived and transported the adult male driver to a local hospital with life-threatening-injuries.

 The offramp from the New Seward Hwy to Dimond Blvd will be closed while investigators process the scene. Please use alternative routes.

 The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor.
