Traffic Investigation: Single Vehicle Collision E Northern Lights and Rose Street

The 17-year-old female passenger succumbed to her injuries at the hospital yesterday evening.  Her name will not be released by APD due to her age.  Next-of-kin notification has been made.

Original on 8/14/23:

At 05:45 PM on August 14, 2023, officers assigned to swing shift Patrol and medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the intersection of Rose Street and East Northern Lights Blvd in reference to a single vehicle collision with injuries.

Westbound Northern Lights at Boniface has been reopened and Eastbound Northern Lights at Sunflower remain closed while investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) process the scene. Please use alternative routes.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Honda Civic was traveling westbound on E Northern Lights Blvd when it made a U-turn at Lily Street and reportedly lost control near Rose Street and struck a utility pole.

Medics arrived and transported the adult male driver of the vehicle to a hospital were he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. An adult female and a juvenile where also transported to a local hospital; both for life-threatening injuries.

 The circumstances of the collision are still under investigation. No citations have been issued.
