Travis Swanson charged with OUI in this morning’s traffic collision

Update at 3PM:

At 6:53 AM on June 28, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to the intersection of E Fireweed Lane and the Seward Highway regarding a multi-vehicle collision.  Initial indications are that 38-year-old Travis E. Swanson was driving eastbound on Fireweed Lane in a green Suzuki when he drove through the intersection on a red light.

A gray Mercedes and a black Subaru were both being driven northbound on the Seward Highway, each in a different lane, when Swanson entered the intersection.  Northbound traffic had a green light, and as a result, the Mercedes struck the Suzuki first and then the Subaru struck the Suzuki.  After striking the Suzuki, the Subaru then ran into the base of a traffic light pole causing scratches and dents to the pole.  The airbags in both the Mercedes and Suzuki deployed.

When officers contacted each of the parties involved, they noticed signs of impairment from Travis Swanson.  After conducting Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), the decision was made to charge Swanson with Operating under the Influence. He was also cited for Fail to Stop for Steady Red Signal and Driving without Proof of Insurance.

None of the drivers were injured.  A passenger riding with Swanson suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All three vehicles were towed from the scene.
