Travis Wassillie Arrested by K9 for Robbery and Assault
On 12/16/2021 at 11:37PM Officers responded to the 1100 block of West 8th Avenue for a report of a robbery. The initial indications were that a suspect had taken the victim’s vehicle after threatening the suspect with a machete and a handgun. The suspect fled the scene in the stolen vehicle prior to the officers arriving.
31-year-old Travis Wassillie was developed as a suspect. A computer check revealed that Wassillie had three warrants for his arrest, one of which was for an eluding incident in which he eluded police, rammed police cars and fled on foot prior to being arrested.
At 5:09AM on 12/17/21 a patrol officer located the occupied stolen vehicle in the 700 East block of 40th Avenue. The Officer waited for back-up officers to respond to the scene before making contact. Once additional officers arrived on scene, they attempted to block the stolen vehicle in by using numerous police vehicles to prevent its escape. It was confirmed that the suspect, Travis Wassillie, was the driver. Wassillie then began ramming police vehicles in an attempt to escape. Multiple police vehicles were damaged. Wassillie proceeded to jump out of the vehicle and flee on foot. An Officer with the K9 unit was on scene with K9 Kiska and gave Wassillie a K9 warning, which he ignored. K9 Kiska was deployed and subsequently apprehended Wassillie by biting him in the lower body. Wassillie continued to resist arrest before finally being taken into custody by assisting officers.
Wassillie was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Once medically cleared by the hospital, Wassillie was interviewed by APD detectives and then remanded to the Anchorage Jail for Robbery 1, Assault 3, Vehicle Theft 1, Theft 2, Fail to Stop at the Directions of a Police Officer 1, criminal mischief 3, resisting arrest and VCOR along with his three other warrants.
None of the involved officers nor K9 Kiska were injured during the incident
