VEHICLE VERSUS PEDESTRIAN FATALITY AT NEW SEWARD HIGHWAY AND DOWLING ROAD

Update on 3/11/24:

The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Anthony Johnson.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Original on 3/8/24:

At 8:21 PM on March 7, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on the northbound lanes of the New Seward Highway and Dowling Road. Initial indications are that a Kia Sorento was being driven northbound on the New Seward Highway when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was crossing the highway. AFD attempted life saving measures but ultimately declared the victim deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Kia stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation; no charges have been filed at this time.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to process the scene. All roadways are now reopened.

The victim’s name will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.
