At approximately 9:34 a.m., the Anchorage Police Department (APD) received information from our partners at the Anchorage School District regarding a tip from the community about a possible student in possession of a weapon on the West High School campus.
Officers were dispatched immediately and met the West High School Resource Officer (SROs) onsite. The student in question was promptly located and escorted to a safe location, where a search was conducted. During the search, officers and SROs recovered the weapon.
The student was taken into custody by APD and transported to McLaughlin Youth Center. There was no disruption to the school day, and there is no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the public.
