A vehicle collision that occurred last week is now being investigated as a fatality.

The adult female victim was identified as 89-year-old Millicent Rand. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 5:09 PM on January 11, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to a vehicle collision at Debarr Road and Pine Street. Initial indications are that a 2015 yellow Honda was being driven eastbound on Debarr Road when it turned northbound on Pine Street at the intersection. At the same time, a 2016 silver Chevy Silverado was being driven straight through the intersection on a green light, westbound on Debarr, when it struck the Honda that had turned directly in front of it. Both vehicles were disabled and their airbags were deployed.
The adult male driver and adult female passenger of the Honda were transported to the hospital with what were thought to be non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevy was not injured.
On January 13, 2022, the Honda’s passenger died at the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. This incident is now being investigated as a fatality. Next-of-kin notification procedures have not yet been completed.
The Chevy’s driver was issued a citation for Driving on a Suspended License. No other charges and/or citations have been filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
