Aaron Raymond facing theft, weapon, and drug charges in stolen vehicle investigation
At 9:59 AM on November 15, 2021, a 2015 red Chevy Cruze was reported as stolen to APD. The parked vehicle was locked, but running with the keys inside, outside of a residence on the 1300-block of Juneau Street when it was taken.
At 4:58 PM on November 16th, a swing-shift patrol officer saw a red sedan being driven near Taku Drive and Bunnell Street; the vehicle’s license plate was obscured. The officer conducted a traffic stop once the sedan’s driver pulled into a parking lot on the 5000-block of Taku Drive. When the officer contacted the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Aaron D. M. Raymond, he noticed Raymond constantly moving his right arm while trying to conceal what he was doing. The officer detained Raymond while he investigated further. A computer check revealed that Raymond had an outstanding felony warrant. A check of the vehicle revealed it had been reported as stolen the day before.
During the pat search, two glass pipes containing methamphetamine residue were recovered from Raymond’s person. Raymond was transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives. With permission of the vehicle’s owner, officers searched the Chevy and located a handgun under the driver’s seat that had been reported as stolen to the Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna, Alaska.
After the interview, Raymond was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrant. He was additionally charged with Theft II – Firearms, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V, Theft II – Larceny over $500, and Vehicle Theft I.
