Andre Registe facing several charges due to DUI crash

At 5:54 AM on November 27, 2021, Anchorage Police responded to a residence on the 2100-block of Forest Park Drive regarding a vehicle collision involving a baby seat.  When officers arrived at the home, they could see that a black 2008 Volvo had collided with a 2020 blue Chevy pickup that was parked in the driveway.  The officers contacted 32-year-old Andre T. Registe who was standing outside.  While speaking with Registe, officers noticed signs of impairment. After confirming Registe was the at-fault driver of the Volvo, officers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).  Upon completion of those tests, the decision was made to charge Registe with Driving under the Influence.

Registe was transported to the Anchorage Jail for further processing.  Afterwards Registe was remanded on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.  He was additionally charged with DUI, two counts of Assault III, and Reckless Driving.

Initial indications are that Registe was driving the Volvo southbound on Forest Park Drive when he lost control and started skidding around a slight turn in the roadway.  The Volvo left the roadway, went through a snow berm, and then continued to skid until it collided with the rear passenger side of a Chevy pickup parked in the driveway.  The impact pushed the back half of the Chevy into a retaining wall on the driver’s side of the driveway which caused the Chevy’s rear driver’s side tire to snap off the axle.

Just prior to the crash, the Chevy’s adult male driver was standing outside the passenger side of the pickup.  He was in the process of placing a child car seat (with a small child strapped inside) into the back seat of the Chevy when the collision occurred.  The Volvo hit the car seat in the adult male’s hands before striking the Chevy. The impact knocked the car seat out of the adult’s hands and onto the ground.  The child was uninjured; the adult male suffered a minor injury to his upper body.  Registe was not injured.
