Anthony Alexie charged after discharging a weapon downtown

At 1:49 AM on April 9, 2023, a mid-shift patrol officer informed Dispatch he had heard a gunshot in the area of W 6th Avenue and F Street.  Immediately thereafter several citizens flagged down the officer regarding a male shooting a gun nearby.  The citizens provided the officer with the suspect’s physical description.

Responding officers located a person, matching the suspect’s description, walking near W 7th Avenue and E Street.  Officers gave the suspect commands.  The suspect eventually complied but was slow to respond and showed signs of intoxication.  Once the suspect had been detained, a pat search turned up a loaded handgun in his clothing along with two sets of brass knuckles.

26-year-old Anthony J. Alexie was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Firing Recklessly, two counts of Assault III, Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Possess While Intoxicated, two counts of Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Possession of Metal Knuckles, and two counts of Robbery I – Armed with a Deadly Weapon.

Initial indications are that Alexie approached two males walking on the sidewalk and asked them for money.  When the men declined his request, Alexie pulled a handgun from his pocket.  Fearing they would be harmed, the two men fled on foot.  As they were running, they heard a shot being fired.  They called 9-1-1 soon as they were a safe distance away.  There were no injuries.

There were several witnesses to this incident.  APD is grateful for all those who came forward and provided police with a statement.
