Brian Heitz Apprehended by K9 Ray for his Felony Warrant

At 6:38 PM on September 22, 2023, Anchorage Police received information that 53-year-old Brian J. Heitz was staying in a room at Americas Best Value Inn & Suites located at 4360 Spenard Road.  Heitz had a felony warrant for Assault IV, six counts of Assault III, Attempted Burglary, and Resisting Arrest.  Heitz has a history of being combative with law enforcement and for being armed.

Upon arrival officers confirmed that Heitz was in a hotel room at that establishment.  Officers made verbal contact with Heitz through the closed door; Heitz refused to come out.  Negotiators responded and tried to talk Heitz out, but those attempts were unsuccessful.  Officers breached the hotel room door after obtaining a search warrant.  Multiple commands and warnings were given, to include K9 warnings, which went unheeded.

K9 Ray was deployed.  Ray located Heitz hiding in the bathtub.  Ray contacted Heitz on his hip which allowed officers to move in and detain Heitz.  Heitz was transported to a hospital for treatment of the bite and for non-life-threatening self-inflicted injuries.  Afterwards Heitz was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrant along with a charge of Resisting.
