Camelia Harrison Arrested for DUI and Hit-And-Run Collision

At 2:09 AM on June 13, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to Maplewood Street and E Northern Lights Boulevard regarding a person lying in the westbound lanes of traffic.  Upon arrival officers contacted the adult male victim who was lying in the street on Northern Lights.  He was transported by AFD Medics to a hospital for treatment of injuries he is expected to survive.

As mid-shift patrol officers were responding to the scene APD Dispatch received a call from 47-year-old Camelia D. Harrison, who claimed responsibility for hitting the pedestrian, but then hung up and refused to answer the phone when police tried calling her back.  She recalled at 3:02 AM and provided her current location.  Officers responded to a residence and contacted Harrison; Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were administered.  An IDEU officer (Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit), who is DRE certified (Drug Recognition Expert), conducted additional tests.  Afterwards the decision was made to charge Harrison with Driving under the Influence.

Harrison was transported to the Anchorage Correctional Complex for further processing.  Once there she provided a breath sample showing her breath alcohol content was zero.  Her blood was drawn subsequent to a search warrant being obtained.

Camelia Harrison was remanded at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center on the charges of DUI, Assault III, Failure to Render Aid, and Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident.  She was cited for Driving Without Proof of Insurance and Driving on a Suspended License.
