Criminal Charges for Student who Brought a Gun to East High School

Toward the end of the school day, at 2:22 PM on August 29, 2023, an APD officer assigned to the School Resource Unit (SRO) was advised by East High staff that several students reported seeing a student with a handgun inside the school.  The SRO contacted both the student and the student’s parent off school grounds.  At the conclusion of the investigation, charges were forwarded for the student to the Division of Juvenile Justice.

There is no indication the student threatened anyone with the firearm.
