Crystal Garcia charged in stolen vehicle investigation.

At 5:28 PM on November 5, 2022, a 2022 U-Haul Chevy pickup truck was reported as stolen to APD.  The vehicle’s renter stated the truck was taken some time over the past week from the 5700-block of Boundary Avenue.  The caller stated the truck was unlocked and the keys were inside the vehicle at the time of the theft.

A few hours later, at 9:42 PM, Anchorage Police received information the stolen U-Haul was parked behind a building on the 4300-block of Spenard Road.  Prior to officer arrival, the U-Haul truck was driven to another location. Responding officers found the truck at the Holiday gas pumps near the Spenard Road and Minnesota Drive intersection.  There were two female occupants inside the stolen truck.  The suspect driver, later identified as 27-year-old Crystal A. Garcia, attempted to flee when patrol vehicles pulled up to her with their emergency lights activated.  In an attempt to escape the vehicle block, Garcia backed up into a parked unoccupied pickup truck.  She put the stolen Chevy back into drive and attempted to move forward.  Due to the patrol vehicle that had pulled up and pinned her in from the front, all she was able to do was spin the Chevy’s tires.

Commands were given to both female occupants.  The passenger was compliant, exited first, and was detained without incident.  Garcia eventually got out of the truck and was taken into custody however she was uncooperative throughout that process.  Both women were transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.

Crystal Garcia was remanded at Hiland Correctional on the charges of Fail to Stop, Vehicle Theft I, Theft II, Criminal Mischief III, and Resisting.  The passenger was released without being charged.  There were no injuries.
