Daniel Fanualelei apprehended by K9 Rylin in warrants investigation; Anetelea Opetaia also arrested

At 2:00 PM on September 15, 2022, Anchorage police officers assigned to the Investigative Support Unit (ISU) and Department of Corrections Pretrial Officers (DOC) responded to an outdoor camp near Reeve Boulevard and Commercial Drive for a warrant service.  ISU and DOC had information that 35-year-old Anetelea P. Opetaia was inside the tent; he had an outstanding felony warrant for Promoting Contraband I and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V.  As officers approached the camp and began making announcements and giving commands, an adult male fled from the camp.  Believing the runner was Anetelea, officers gave him several commands to stop along with multiple K9 warnings.  The runner ignored the officers and continued to flee.  K9 Rylin was deployed; Rylin apprehended the runner by contacting his right hand which allowed officers to take the runner into custody without further incident.

The runner was identified as 34-year-old Daniel P. Fanualelei.  A computer check revealed Daniel had an outstanding felony arrest warrant related to the original charges of Assault III, Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V.  After being treated at a hospital for the dog bite, Daniel was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrant along with the additional charge of Resisting.

Anetelea was found at that same camp; he was taken into custody without incident and remanded at the jail on his warrant.
