David Ramos JR facing several charges in burglary investigation

At 4:20 AM on February 9, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to the 100-block of Schodde Street regarding a suspicious individual who was banging on doors and windows.  Upon arrival officers were flagged down by citizens who pointed towards the back of a parking lot.  Officers could see that the fresh snow had been disturbed, there was blood on the ground, a door to the main entrance of the building had been kicked in, and shattered glass was lying on the floor.  There was blood in several places inside the building as well.  There was evidence that someone had been on the roof of a nearby shed.

As officers traversed to the back of the building, they saw the suspect standing in the lot.  The officers identified themselves and told 37-year-old David J. Ramos JR to stop.  Ramos ran westbound, hopped over a fence, and continue to run.  While some officers pursued on foot, others set up a perimeter.  A few minutes later an officer advised over the radio that Ramos was attempting to break into a residence on the 3200-block of Richmond Avenue.  Ramos was standing on a garbage bin and attempting to pull a window frame off the home.  Officers gave Ramos commands to stop which he ignored.  To keep Ramos from gaining access into the home, officers went hands on, pulled Ramos off the garbage can, and escorted him to the ground where he was handcuffed.

Ramos’s hands were injured when he broke the glass on the Schodde Street building.  Medics evaluated Ramos on the scene; Ramos was ultimately transported to the hospital by an officer for further treatment. During the transport, Ramos kicked out one of the patrol vehicle’s windows.  The officer pulled over, exited his patrol vehicle, and walked around to the passenger side of the car where Ramos was.  Ramos was attempting to crawl out of the window he had just broken out.  The officer held Ramos in place until backup officers arrived.  Ramos was removed from the car, put into full restraints, placed into the back of a different police car, and was driven to the hospital.

Once Ramos was medically cleared, he was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Burglary I, two counts of Criminal Mischief III, Resisting, Criminal Mischief IV, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V, and Escape II.
