Homicide Investigation: South Anchorage Walmart Parking Lot

Update on 11/21/23:

Initial indications are that 29-year-old Saina Fa’atoafe fatally shot an adult female in the Walmart parking lot and then took his own life.  No one else was involved.

This is a domestic violence-related crime; therefore, the female victim’s name will not be released by APD.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed for both deceased.

Update 11/19/23 at 9:02 PM:

At 5:11 PM on November 19, 2023, Anchorage Police swing shift officers responded to the Dimond Walmart parking lot in response to reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a deceased adult female and a deceased adult male.

Officers also located a firearm at the scene.

The circumstances of the incident are under investigation, but Officers have cause to believe this is an isolated incident. There have been no arrests at this time, and this is an active investigation.

The Crime Scene Team has responded to process the scene. Depending on the situation a drone may be used.

There are currently no road closures. Please avoid the area. If you must be in the area, please follow officer instructions. Thank you for your cooperation.
