Dieter Vandervoort-Jackson facing several charges in DUI Investigation
At 4:41 PM on December 14, 2021, a citizen called APD Dispatch to report a reckless driver. The citizen safely followed the 2013 blue Chevy Sedan while giving updates to Dispatch. The witness citizen reported that the reckless driver was unable to maintain his lane of travel, drifted towards the ditch multiple times, and narrowly missed hitting other cars and pedestrians.
An officer located the Chevy when it pulled over into a parking lot on the 100-block of Park Lane. After speaking with the citizen witness, the officer activated his patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and pulled in behind the Chevy. The officer exited his vehicle and contacted 35-year-old Dieter L. Vandervoort-Jackson who was the driver and sole occupant in the Chevy. As the officer was conversing with Dieter, he noticed signs of impairment. After obtaining Dieter’s ID card, the officer walked back to his patrol vehicle to conduct a computer check. The officer saw Dieter get out of the Chevy. Upon seeing this, the officer exited his patrol vehicle at which time Dieter began to run away. The officer gave chase while giving Dieter commands to stop. Dieter ignored the commands and continued to run until the officer caught up and took them both to the ground. Dieter physically resisted during the handcuffing process. The citizen witness saw this and assisted the officer as backup units had not yet arrived.
Once Dieter was detained, he was escorted to a patrol vehicle. A computer check revealed that Dieter had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and that he had a revoked driver’s license due to a previous OUI conviction. Dieter was transported to the Anchorage Jail. Once there, Dieter would not participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) and he also refused to provide a breath sample. A search warrant was obtained, and Dieter’s blood was drawn.
While Correctional Officers were preparing Dieter for intake, they found cocaine on Dieter’s person. Dieter was remanded on his warrant. He was additionally charged with Felony DUI (two or more previous DUI offenses in the last ten years), Felony Refusal, Resisting, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV, and Driving on a Revoked License.
