Fatality Investigation on the Glenn Highway between Turpin and Muldoon

Update on 5/24/22:

The victims have been identified as 22-year-old Wyne Abonita and 23-year-old Valsin Tate. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

 

Update--05/13/2022—8:50PM

At 5:52 PM on May 13, 2022, Anchorage Police swing shift patrol officers responded to the Glenn Highway between Turpin and Muldoon in reference to a multi-vehicle collision.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a red Dodge Challenger and a black Mitsubishi Galant were traveling inbound on the Glenn Highway between Muldoon and Turpin when they both lost control. The Dodge Challenger struck a tree off the side of the highway. The Mitsubishi Galant struck a Black Toyota Tundra, that was also traveling inbound on the Glenn.

The Toyota Tundra and the Mitsubishi Galant crossed the median into the outbound lanes of the Glenn Highway and both vehicles rolled over. The Mitsubishi Galant struck an oncoming Silver Chevrolet Silverado, which was traveling outbound. Both the Mitsubishi Galant and the Chevrolet Silverado caught on fire. The driver and a passenger of the Mitsubishi Galant were declared deceased at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet Silverado was not injured.

 

Medics with the Anchorage Fire Department transported the two occupants of the Dodge Challenger and the two occupants of the Toyota Tundra to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

The victims’ names will be released once next of kin procedures have been completed.

 

No arrests have been made at this time.

 

Northbound and Southbound lanes of the Glenn Highway remain closed, and will be for several more hours, between Muldoon and Boniface while the investigators with the Major Collision Investigation Unit process the scene.

Officers are asking the public's assistance to please also avoid Boundary Avenue between Muldoon and Boniface.

 

If you are traveling inbound on the Glenn, please divert to Muldoon and take it to Debarr for travel within Anchorage.

 

If you are traveling outbound on the Glenn, please divert to Boniface.

At 5:52 PM on May 13, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to the inbound and outbound lanes of the Glenn Highway in reference to a multi-vehicle crash.

 

All inbound and outbound lanes of the Glenn Highway are currently closed between Boniface and Muldoon.

 

Please revise and make alternate travel plans traveling in and out of Anchorage for the next several hours.
