Gerald Eddy charged with OUI after striking four other vehicles
At 1:25 PM on April 22, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to the Tudor/Seward overpass regarding a vehicle that had flipped over. Initial indications are that a 2018 gray Subaru Crosstrek (far right-hand lane), a 2008 blue Honda Odyssey (far left-hand lane), and a 2017 white Dodge Journey (middle lane) were all stopped for the red light on top of the exit ramp from northbound New Seward Highway onto Tudor Road. A 2003 blue and yellow Ford F250 was stopped in eastbound traffic, on top of the Tudor overpass, waiting to turn left onto northbound New Seward.
59-year-old Gerald V. Eddy was driving a 2008 gray Ford F150 northbound up the exit ramp when he accelerated at a high rate of speed. Eddy hit the Crosstrek, Odyssey, and Journey, went into the intersection of Tudor/New Seward, and then struck the Ford F250. After colliding with the F250, Eddy’s F150 rolled over onto the bridge landing on the driver’s side.
Eddy was still inside the F150 when APD and AFD arrived on scene; AFD helped Eddy get out of the vehicle. While speaking with Eddy, officers noticed signs of impairment. After administering SFSTs (Standardized Field Sobriety Tests), the decision was made to charge Eddy with Operating under the Influence. Eddy was transported to the Anchorage Jail for further processing. While there he provided a breath sample showing his alcohol breath content was more than two times the legal limit.
AFD medics evaluated everyone involved; no one was transported to the hospital from the scene. The driver of the Dodge Journey did suffer from minor injuries.
