Homicide; 1630 E 82nd Avenue

Update on 12/5/18:
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Dylan J. Gregg.  Next-of-kin notification has been made.

Update at 3:30 PM :

At 1:30 AM on December 3, 2018, a mid-shift officer saw a Suburban driving eastbound on E 82nd Avenue near Hartzell Road.  The vehicle had no headlights or front license plate.  As the officer turned around to make contact with the Suburban, the driver parked the Chevy in front of a warehouse at 1630 E 82nd and entered inside the building.  The officer confirmed there was no one else inside the vehicle.

After other officers arrived, they heard gunshots from inside the warehouse.  They began to approach the warehouse when they found a deceased male lying outside (he had moved to that location after being shot inside the building).    Officers then heard more gunshots being fired inside the building.  A perimeter was set up and officers began making announcements to the people inside the warehouse.  An adult male crawled out of the warehouse; he had a gunshot wound to the upper body and was transported to a hospital.  Three more adults exited the warehouse and were transported to APD for questioning.

A sixth adult male, later identified as 27-year-old Ian A. Bradford, refused to comply with officers’ commands.  SWAT responded and also gave commands which Bradford ignored.  A K9 track was conducted and K9 Doc located Bradford hiding under a tractor trailer parked on the property.  K9 Doc apprehended Bradford with a bite to the upper arm. He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment of the bite.  Afterwards Bradford was transported to APD for questioning.

Initial indications are that Bradford shot the two males during an argument.  Bradford was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on charges of Murder I, Murder II, Attempted Murder I, Assault I, Misconduct Involving a Weapon III (felon in possession), and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

The second victim is expected to survive.  The deceased will be identified once next-of-kin notifications procedures have been completed.

Update at 7:20 AM:

Both patrol officers, and then SWAT, made multiple announcements to the outstanding individual seen hiding in the yard area of the warehouse.  When they did not receive a response, SWAT and K9 began a track. K9 Doc located the individual hiding underneath a semi trailer parked in the driveway of the warehouse.  K9 Doc apprehended the person with a bite to the upper arm and he was taken into custody without further incident at approximately 6:30 AM.

The adult male will be taken to the hospital for treatment of the bite and then transported to APD for questioning by detectives.

Original:
At 1:30 AM on December 3, 2018, a mid-shift patrol officer saw a suspicious vehicle in the area of E 82nd Avenue and Hartzell Road.  When an adult male, who was standing near the vehicle, saw the police vehicle he took off running on foot.  As more officers arrived at the location they heard shots fired at a warehouse at 1630 E 82nd and they located a deceased male on the ground outside.

As officers began giving commands to anyone who may be inside the warehouse, an adult male came out with a non-life-threatening gun shot wound to the upper body; he was transported to the hospital.

Three more adults came outside from the warehouse and have been transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning.

As officers were at the scene they saw a fifth individual hiding in the yard who has refused to comply with officers’ instructions.  SWAT is now on scene to deal with that person; APD is asking people to avoid the area.

It is unknown at this time if the original person who ran from officers is still outstanding or if he is one of the people officers currently have contact with.
