Homicide; 300-block E 24th Avenue
Update on 8/13/14:
Paul Miller was a client living in the assisted living home and Eduardo Escalante was a caretaker who also lived on-site. There were other clients residing at the assisted living home; none of them were injured.
Police Dispatch received a call at 5:15 p.m. reporting a male victim had been shot at the assisted living home located on the 300 block of E 24th Avenue. Police officers and medics responded and found a deceased male inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. The male suspect (later identified as Paul Miller) was taken into custody at the scene. The Anchorage Police Department’s Crime Scene Team and homicide detectives responded to the residence just after 6:00 p.m. to investigate and gather evidence. Investigators cleared the scene just after midnight.
Detectives will continue to review evidence and information to determine a possible motive and the course of events leading up to the shooting.
Note: A criminal charge is merely an accusation of criminal wrongdoing. All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty by a court of law.
Update on 8/12/14:
Anchorage police have charged 51-year-old Paul Miller in the shooting death of 63-year-old Eduardo Escalante at an assisted living home earlier this evening. Next of kin have been notified. Miller has been charged with one count of Murder 1 and one count of Murder 2. The investigation is ongoing.
