Homicide; 5400-block E 26th Avenue

Update 11/6/19 @ 12:40 PM:
It has been determined that the group of individuals involved were roommates. Initial indications are that 22-year-old Samuel J. Fair was handling the weapon when it discharged, striking the victim. Prior to the victim being declared deceased, Fair was charged with Assault I and Reckless Endangerment. Now that this incident is being investigated as a homicide, the District Attorney’s Office may add or amend charges as necessary.

The victim will not be identified by APD due to this being a DV Crime.

The victim has died as a result of his injuries.

His identity will be released once next of kin procedures have been completed.

This is now a homicide investigation.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances.

Original 11/5/19 9:15 p.m.
On 11/5/19 at around 8:15 p.m., Officers with the Patrol Division responded to a residence on the 5400 block of E 26th Ave in reference to reports of a gunshot victim.

The preliminary investigation found that a group of adults were inside the residence and handling a rifle when it fired off a round and struck one adult male in the upper body. Upon arrival, Officers located the adult male victim inside the home and he was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. All the adults in the group knew one another.

Multiple people have been taken into custody for questioning and there have been no arrests at this time.
