Homicide; 6800-block Vibernum Drive
On Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 12:05 AM, Anchorage Police received a call from 25-year-old Gilbert Nashookpuk who stated he had killed a woman in an assisted living facility where he has been staying. Nashookpuk stated his female caretaker, 57-year-old Glenna Wyllie, had made him angry so he strangled, kicked, and punched her to death. Nashookpuk stated he hid Wyllie's body behind the freezer in the basement, and then left the area on foot. Nashookpuk stated the crime had occurred approximately two hours prior to him calling police.
One set of officers made contact with Nashookpuk at the corner of E 88th Avenue and Swiss Place, and took him into custody without incident. Another set of officers responded to the assisted living facility located on the 6800 block of Viburnum Drive and located Wyllie's body where Nashookpuk said it would be.
There were other residents in the assisted living facility at the time of the murder. They were uninjured.
Nashookpuk has been charged with one count of Murder in the First Degree and one count of Murder in the Second Degree. He has been remanded to the Anchorage Jail.
