Homicide; 700-block W 31st Avenue

Detectives have located Nedra Humpherville for questioning in this investigation.

Update on 8/27/18 3:25 p.m.:
APD is asking for the public’s help in locating 40-year-old Nedra C. Humpherville who is a person of interest in the July 4, 2018, homicide of Ian Ellison. Detectives believe Humpherville may have information regarding the shooting and would like to talk to her reference what she knows.

Humpherville is 5’10” tall with a slim build, dark hair, and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding Humpherville’s location is asked to contact Detective Roberts through Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1).

Update: 7/19/18:
The victim has been identified as Ian Ellison (48 years old).

Next of kin notification procedures have been completed.

UPDATE ON 7/18/18:
The victim in July 4th's shooting has died; this case is now being investigated as a homicide. The victim died at the hospital where he has been since the incident. In accordance with next-of-kin procedures, the victim's name will be released tomorrow.

Additional charges may be filed against the suspect, Daren Barnhart, pending review by the District Attorney's Office.

UPDATE ON 7/16/18:
At 9:04 PM on July 13, 2018, Anchorage Police CAP Officers responded to the 2700-block of Spenard Road regarding a sighting of shooting suspect Daren Barnhart. Officers located Barnhart riding a bicycle on Spenard. The CAP officers activated their lights and sirens, and gave Barnhart orders to stop, but Barnhart ignored the commands and continued to ride away. Barnhart rode to a field near the Carousel Lounge and hid in the tall grass.

A K9 Officer responded and gave several K9 warnings. Barnhart ignored those warnings, leapt up from where he was hiding, and started to run. K9 Midas was released; he made contact with Barnhart’s right forearm. Barnhart was taken into custody and treated at the scene for the dog bite. After being medically cleared at the hospital, Barnhart was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his existing warrants and he was additionally charged with Resisting.

ORIGINAL:
Yesterday on July 4th, 2018 at 6:10PM, Officers with the Patrol Division were dispatched to the Arctic Benson Park (750 W 31st Ave) in reference to a shooting.

The preliminary investigation found that there was a dispute between an adult male and an adult female over ownership of a bicycle. When three more adults became involved, one female and two males, a physical altercation broke out. One of the adult males produced a weapon and shot another adult male in the lower body. The victim sustained minor non-life threatening injuries. The group dispersed and fled on foot. This incident does not appear to be drug-related, but alcohol appears to be a factor. These individuals knew each other and this was an isolated incident.

The suspect in the shooting has been identified as 50-year-old Daren Barnhart. A warrant has been obtained for Barnhart for the charge of Misconduct Involving a Weapon III. He also has an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for Fail to Appear on the original charge of Assault.
