Homicide; 6000-block Austin Street

Update on 9/7/18:
On 9/7/2018 at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Investigative Support Unit (ISU) located homicide suspect Nathan Mattie in the Fairview area. He was taken into custody and brought to APD Headquarters for questioning by homicide detectives.

Update 9/4/18:
Detectives are searching for a second suspect (see attached photo) in this investigation.

He has been identified as Nathan Mattie (41 years old). He is wanted on multiple charges including Manslaughter and Burglary 1.

Detectives believe he sent Premo and Sorden to the residence with the intent to rob the homeowner.

Mattie is described as 6’1” tall and weighs 210 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Update 8/20/18:
Early this morning, Officers with the Patrol Division attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle. The suspect driver eluded police, subsequently crashing the vehicle into a pole in the area of 36th Avenue and Patterson Street and fleeing on foot shortly thereafter.

A perimeter was set up and a K9 track was conducted. The suspect was found hiding in a shed in a nearby residential area and refused to come out. The suspect was identified as Jason Premo - a suspect in a homicide investigation on the 6000 block of Austin Street for which he had a felony warrant for manslaughter. After a short period of negotiation, he complied with officer commands and surrendered himself. Premo was taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries.

Update: 8/2/18:
Detectives have determined that Jason Premo is a now suspect in this investigation. A manslaughter warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Detectives believe that Premo and Sorden entered the home and got into an altercation with the homeowner. Sorden shot the homeowner in the lower body. The homeowner shot back and struck Sorden who died at the scene. Premo fled on foot.

Update: 6/21/18:
Through the course of the investigation into the homicide of Geoffrey Sorden, detectives believe a person present during the time of the shooting left prior to police arrival. Police are looking to speak with 41-year-old Jason E. Premo (see attached photo) to discuss what he may have witnessed.

Premo is 5’09” tall, 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Update 6/20/18:
The deceased shooting victim has been identified as Geoffrey Sorden (48 years old).

Update 6/19/18:
The preliminary investigation found that there was an altercation inside an upstairs apartment between a group of people and ended with two people shot.

Detectives have determined this to be a targeted crime. They believe the altercation was related to on-going activity inside the residential building possibly involving money and drugs.

The shooting victim transported to a local hospital had non-life threatening injuries.

The identity of the deceased shooting victim is not being released at this time pending next of kin procedures.

At 4:00 PM on June 18, 2018, officers responded to a residence on the 6000-block of Austin Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers located two adult males with gunshot wounds, one of whom was deceased. The other male has been transported to the hospital; the severity of his wounds is not known at this time.

While the dynamics of the shooting are still under investigation, officers believe they have made contact with everyone involved. There is no one outstanding at this time.

Southbound Austin Street, at Dowling, is closed while officers work the scene. Please avoid the area.
