Homicide; 800-block W 29th Place

Update on 10/13/17:
Wednesday’s homicide victim has been identified as 46-year-old Jerry Amos. Next-of-kin have been notified. 

Update at 7 PM :
Around 5:30 p.m., Dispatch received a tip that Aumua was inside the ACF Church (16620 Brooks Loop, Eagle River). The caller said Aumua walked in and admitted to the crime. The caller said he recognized Aumua from the Person of Interest Nixle Alert.
 
When Dispatch sent out the information, officers from multiple units responded. They coordinated a plan, set up a perimeter and evacuated the church. Aumua exited the church peacefully, was taken into custody and transported to Headquarters for questioning.

Anthony Aumua has admitted to shooting and killing the adult male inside the apartment this morning. He faces multiple charges including Murder 1.
 
Update at 2:47 p.m.
Detectives need the public’s help in finding a person of interest in this investigation.
 
His name is Anthony Aumua (34-years-old). He’s 5’7” tall and 180 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.
 
He’s considered armed and dangerous. The public should not approach him. They should call 911 immediately if located.

Update at 8:15 a.m.:

On 10/11/17 at 4:16 a.m., Dispatch received a report of a shooting in the 800 block of West 29th Place.
 

The preliminary investigation found that there were a group of people inside an apartment on the 2nd floor of the building. When officers arrived, they found an adult male shot inside the living room area. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple people, including witnesses, have been taken into custody for questioning.
 

The suspect is described as an adult male. No further information is available due to the inconsistent accounts from witnesses.
 
A portion of West 29th Place will remain closed for several hours as the Homicide Unit collects evidence. We are coordinating with the Anchorage School District to provide support for students who live in the area to attend school.

Officers are on the scene of a shooting in the 800 block of West 29th Place. One victim located inside a residence. Part of West 29th Place around the residence will be closed. Residents should expect large police presence in the area.
