Homicide Investigation: 400-Block Mumford Street
Update on 3/19/24:
From the Attorney General’s Office:
March 19, 2024 (Anchorage, AK) – An Anchorage grand jury indicted 26-year-old Versace Sperl in February for the murder of Daishon Alex. The charges of Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Manslaughter and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence stem from a homicide that occurred on May 18, 2023, on Mumford Street in Anchorage.
Additionally, the grand jury indicted Brandon Johnson, Faizon Murray, and Kenneth Lavea for Tampering with Physical Evidence in the First Degree and Hindering Prosecution in the First Degree.
Sperl is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is being held on a $250,000 cash performance bond and a $250,000 cash appearance bond. If convicted at trial, Sperl faces a sentence of up to 99 years of imprisonment for each of the murder charges.
These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Update 5/19/23:
The victim has been identified as 22-year old Daishon Alex. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 12:17 PM on May 18, 2023, officers assigned to Day Shift Patrol responded to the 400-Block of Mumford Street in reference to a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a deceased adult male outside. The Crime Scene Team has responded to process the scene. Please avoid the area and follow the officers’ instructions if you need to be in the vicinity.
Mumford Street is closed between Thompson and Peterkin.
There have been no arrests at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident, that have not already spoken to the police, is asked to call Police Dispatch at 3-1-1 (Option 1).
