Homicide Investigation on the 2800-block of Spenard Road

On July 26, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a local hospital regarding an adult male who had been assaulted and suffered life-threatening injuries as a result.

Through the subsequent investigation it was determined that both APD and AFD medics had responded to the 2800-block of Spenard Road regarding a group of people loitering outside a business on July 20, 2023.  It was reported that two people were passed out.  Prior to police arrival, APD Dispatch was informed that one of the passed-out men had fallen the day before and needed medics.  AFD Medics transported the 46-year-old male to the hospital for treatment.

When APD was requested to respond to the hospital six days later, they were advised by medical staff that the male victim was expected to pass away due to injuries caused by an apparent assault.

The man’s subsequent death is being investigated by APD detectives as a homicide.  The investigation remains open and active; no charges have been filed. The male’s identity is not being released as it has not yet been determined if this is a domestic violence related crime.
