Update on 10/8/24:

From the Department of Law:

Monday, an Anchorage grand jury indicted 20-year-old Tonise Patrick Salevao for the murder of <adult male domestic violence victim name redacted>, 22, and the attempted murder of <adult female domestic violence victim name redacted>, 21, on Sept. 26, 2024.

Salevao was indicted on one count of First-Degree Murder, two counts of Second-Degree Murder, one count of Attempted First-Degree Murder, three counts of First-Degree Assault, and one count of Third-Degree Assault on another woman, a third victim.

If convicted at trial, Salevao faces sentences of up to 99 years imprisonment for each of the murder and attempted murder charges. He faces up to 20 years of imprisonment for the First-Degree Assault charges and up to five years for the Third-Degree Assault charge.

These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Salevao is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to be arraigned before the Superior Court on Oct. 9, 2023.

Update on 10/1/24:

The 22-year-old deceased victim has been identified and next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.  His name will not be released by APD due to this being a domestic violence related crime.

Update on 9/27/24:

The male detained at the scene was identified as 20-year-old Tonise P. Salevao.  After being interviewed by detectives, he was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the charges of Murder in the First Degree, two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Murder in the First Degree, and Assault in the First Degree.

At 5:32 PM on September 26, 2024, Anchorage Police swing shift patrol officers responded to a residence on the 400-block of W Northern Lights Boulevard reference a stabbing.  Upon arrival, officers saw that a citizen had detained an adult male outside the apartment building.  The citizen and the detained male have both been transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.

Two victims were found inside the apartment.  An adult male was declared deceased at the scene.  An adult female was transported to a local hospital with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.  Both victims had injuries to the upper body.

Police believe they have contacted everyone involved.  While the motive for the assault is still under investigation, the preliminary indications are that this is an isolated event and not random. 

The Crime Scene Team will be responding to process the home. There will be a continued police presence in the area while that occurs.  There are no road closures.
