Homicide Investigation on the 600-block of W 46th Avenue

Update on 8/2/23:

Initial indications are that 25-year-old Zachary R. Tywlak fatally shot his roommate during an argument and then took his own life. The nature of that argument is still under investigation.  APD interviewed several witnesses and believe they have contacted everyone necessary for this case.

 The victim’s name will not be released due to this being a domestic violence crime.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed for both men.

At 7:57 PM on July 31, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a residence regarding reports of a shooting.  Officers located two deceased adult males inside an apartment on the 600-block of W 46th Avenue.  While the investigation is in its infancy, initial indications are that there are no outstanding suspects.

APD’s Crime Scene Team will be responding to process the scene; there will be a continued police presence in the area while they do so.  There are no road closures.
