Homicide; Mile 3 of Campbell Airstrip Road
Update on 9/16/16:
The U.S. Marshals have taken 19-year-old Riek William Gat into custody. Gat was wanted in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Michael Mitchell on Campbell Airstrip Road in August. Gat was located by the U.S. Marshals in West Virginia and taken into custody today. We appreciate the assistance of the U.S. Marshals in this case.
Previous Release:
On August 22, 2016, Michael Mitchell was killed on Campbell Airstrip Road. It is suspected that 19-year-old Riek William Gat is an accomplice in that crime. On Thursday, September 8, 2016, an Anchorage Grand Jury returned a true bill for Murder I and Murder II which has resulted in a warrant for Gat's arrest.

Update on 8/23/16:
The homicide victim has been identified as 22-year-old Michael Miquann Mitchell. His next of kin have been notified. No arrests or charges have been made and the homicide investigation is ongoing. Additional information will be released as facts are confirmed in the case.
Original Release:
At 8:29 AM on Monday, August 22, 2016, Anchorage Police were contacted about a deceased body in the middle of Campbell Airstrip Road at mile 3. The road was shut down at that time while the Crime Scene Team processed the area. The road was re-opened at about 1 PM.
The adult male homicide victim has been identified. His identity will be released once next-of-kin notification has been made.
